County Fair Funnel Cakes Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Make the batter
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla.
    • In another bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, whisking until smooth and pourable (like pancake batter).
  2. Heat the oil
    • In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 1–2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Funnel the batter
    • Pour the batter into a squeeze bottle, piping bag, or use a funnel (classic fair style).
    • Carefully drizzle the batter into the hot oil in a crisscross pattern, forming a lacy circle.
  4. Fry until golden
    • Cook for about 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
    • Use tongs to flip carefully.
  5. Drain and dust
    • Remove the funnel cake and place it on paper towels to drain.
    • Generously dust with powdered sugar before serving.
