Perfectly Fluffy White Rice Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup (200 g) white rice(basmati, jasmine, or long-grain)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp butter or oil (optional, for extra flavor)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Rinse the Rice:
    • Place the rice in a bowl and rinse under cold water 2-3 times until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents clumping.
  2. Boil the Water:
    • In a medium-sized pot, bring the water to a boil. Add salt and butter or oil, if desired.
  3. Add the Rice:
    • Stir in the rinsed rice, ensuring it’s evenly spread out in the pot. Reduce the heat to low and cover with a tight-fitting lid.
  4. Simmer:
    • Let the rice cook undisturbed for 15-20 minutes (depending on the variety). Avoid lifting the lid during this time, as the steam is essential for even cooking.
  5. Rest the Rice:
    • Once the water is absorbed, remove the pot from the heat and let it rest, covered, for 5-10 minutes. This allows the grains to firm up.
  6. Fluff and Serve:
    • Use a fork to gently fluff the rice before serving.

Tips for Success:

  • For added aroma, cook the rice with a bay leaf, cardamom pods, or a cinnamon stick.
  • Use a rice cooker for consistently perfect results, following the same water-to-rice ratio.
