This rich, flavorful gravy is perfect for pairing with mashed potatoes, biscuits, or fried chicken!
Ingredients:
• 1/4 cup unsalted butter
• 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
• 2 cups chicken broth (or use drippings from cooked chicken)
• 1 teaspoon onion powder
• 1 teaspoon garlic powder
• Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions:
1. Make a Roux:
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for 2–3 minutes until the mixture turns a light golden color (this is called a roux).
2. Add the Broth:
Gradually pour in the chicken broth while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture is smooth.
3. Season:
Stir in the onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
Bring the gravy to a simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
4. Adjust the Flavor:
Taste the gravy and adjust the seasoning as needed. For a richer flavor, add a bit more salt or pepper.
5. Serve:
Serve hot over your favorite comfort foods like mashed potatoes, biscuits, or fried chicken.
