Amish Applesauce Cake Recipe

Ingredients

• 2 cups all-purpose flour

• 1 cup granulated sugar

• ½ cup brown sugar (packed)

• 1 teaspoon baking soda

• ½ teaspoon baking powder

• ½ teaspoon salt

• 1 teaspoon cinnamon

• ½ teaspoon nutmeg

• ¼ teaspoon ground cloves

• ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

• 2 eggs

• 1 ½ cups unsweetened applesauce

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

• ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

• ½ cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prep

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round or square baking pan with butter or non-stick spray.
Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Make sure the spices are evenly distributed.

Step 3: Combine the Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs lightly. Add the melted butter, applesauce, and vanilla extract. Stir until well combined.

Step 4: Mix Everything Together

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Do not overmix, as this can make the cake dense. If using nuts or raisins, fold them in at this stage.
Step 5: Bake to Perfection

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 6: Cool and Serve

Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy it as is, or add a glaze for extra sweetness.
