Ground Beef & Gravy with Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

For the Ground Beef & Gravy:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups (480 ml) beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 lbs (900 g) potatoes, peeled & cubed
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup (120 ml) milk (warm)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

👩‍🍳 Instructions

Mashed Potatoes:

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water until fork tender (about 15–20 minutes).
  2. Drain and mash with butter, warm milk, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
  3. Keep warm.

Ground Beef & Gravy:

  1. In a large skillet, heat butter/oil over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and garlic, sauté until softened.
  3. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the beef, stir, and cook for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Slowly whisk in beef broth until smooth. Add Worcestershire sauce, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. Simmer 5–7 minutes, stirring often, until the gravy thickens.

Serve:

  • Spoon creamy mashed potatoes onto plates.
  • Top with beef and rich gravy.
  • Garnish with parsley if desired.
