Lunchroom Ladies Brownies

Ingredients

For the Brownies:

 

1 cup butter, melted

1/2 cup cocoa powder

2 cups flour

2 cups sugar

4 eggs

4 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

 

 

For the Icing:

 

1/4 cup butter, softened

1/4 cup evaporated milk (or regular milk)

1/4 cup cocoa powder

3 cups powdered sugar

Dash of salt

Prepare the Brownies:

In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter and cocoa powder until smooth. Add the flour, sugar, eggs, and vanilla, mixing until well combined. Fold in the chopped nuts if desired.

 

Bake:

Pour the batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes. Check for doneness around 20 minutes—brownies should be set in the center but not dry.

 

 

Make the Icing:

In a medium bowl, mix together the softened butter, milk, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and salt until smooth and creamy.

 

 

Frost and Serve:

Allow the brownies to cool slightly before spreading the icing on top. Cut into squares and enjoy this classic treat!
