AMISH CINNAMON BREAD

Amish Cinnamon Bread (No Starter Needed)

Ingredients:

For the batter:

  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk (see substitute below)
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

For the cinnamon sugar swirl:

  • 1/3 cup (65g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add buttermilk, flour, and baking soda. Mix until just combined – don’t overmix!
  4. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar for the swirl.
  5. Pour half the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle half the cinnamon-sugar mix on top.
  6. Add the rest of the batter, then top with remaining cinnamon-sugar.
  7. Use a knife to swirl the cinnamon sugar into the batter (gently, don’t overdo it).
  8. Bake for 45–55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

🥛 Buttermilk Substitute:

If you don’t have buttermilk, mix 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp white vinegar or lemon juice. Let sit 5–10 mins before using.
