{"id":5964,"date":"2025-09-13T15:11:06","date_gmt":"2025-09-13T15:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/breckas.com\/?p=5964"},"modified":"2025-09-13T15:11:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T15:11:06","slug":"classic-homemade-apple-pie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/breckas.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/13\/classic-homemade-apple-pie\/","title":{"rendered":"Classic Homemade Apple Pie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients<\/p>\n<p>For the crust (makes 2 discs):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 \u00bd cups (315 g) all-purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp salt<\/li>\n<li>1 tbsp sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 cup (230 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed<\/li>\n<li>6\u20138 tbsp ice water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the apple filling:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6\u20137 medium apples (Granny Smith + Honeycrisp is a great combo), peeled, cored, sliced<\/li>\n<li>\u00be cup (150 g) granulated sugar<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc cup (50 g) brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 tbsp all-purpose flour (to thicken)<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp cinnamon<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc tsp nutmeg<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc tsp salt<\/li>\n<li>1 tbsp lemon juice<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small cubes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For finishing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)<\/li>\n<li>1 tbsp sugar (for sprinkling)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Instructions<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Make the crust\n<ul>\n<li>In a bowl, whisk flour, salt, and sugar.<\/li>\n<li>Cut in cold butter until mixture looks like coarse crumbs.<\/li>\n<li>Add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, until dough just comes together.<\/li>\n<li>Divide into 2 discs, wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li>Prepare the filling\n<ul>\n<li>In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugars, flour, spices, lemon juice, and vanilla.
